CME Dynamics LLC is dedicated to elevating the practice and understanding of podiatric medicine through comprehensive educational offerings. Our mission encompasses delivering high-caliber clinical learning opportunities to both members and non-members. Our educational approach is diverse and dynamic, focusing on significantly improving patient care, treatment methodologies, and the efficiency of medical practices.

  • The INTERNATIONAL MIFAS Cadaver Lab Workshop has invited the world leaders in Minimally Invasive Foot & Ankle Surgery, to participate and teach core MIFAS procedures and protocols.
  • The aim of the workshop is to provide premier hands-on learning opportunity for core foundation skills in MIFAS (Minimally Invasive Foot & Ankle Surgery).  
  • The course will provide a complete overview of the evaluation, and surgical correction focusing on percutaneous minimally invasive foot & ankle surgery techniques.
  • ​Integration with expertise from outstanding national and international faculty will be presented to strengthen the learning experience.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Describe normal and pathologic foot & ankle deformities.
  • Describe and perform a physical exam, radiographic analysis, and then determine and identify non-operative and operative treatment plans. 
  • ​Understanding Minimally Invasive Foot Surgery:  Define minimally invasive surgery and comparison to the traditional open foot surgery.
  • Describe and perform minimally invasive surgical techniques for correcting deformities including, but not limited to, the following: exostosis, hammer toes, bunions, tailor’s bunions, lesser metatarsal deformities, tendon balancing issues, and rearfoot conditions.
  • ​Understand anesthesia and pain management in minimally invasive foot surgery.
  • ​Learn postoperative care protocols for foot and ankle MIS.
  • ​Stay informed about emerging trends and advancement in MIS techniques and technologies for foot and ankle.

Stephen Isham, MD DPM

Head Instructor

Dr. Isham has devoted his career not only to practicing the minimal invasive techniques, but also as Professor of Surgery to teach these procedures at home and abroad. His influence is prominent in many Central American, South American, European and Asian countries. He has pioneered and published articles on many of the minimally invasive surgical procedures currently in use, and several of these techniques bear his name. He has received numerous honors worldwide for his work in this field.

Carmen Naranjo Ruiz, DP

Co-Head Instructor

Podiatrist, Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Professor at Universidad Catolica de Valencia teaching minimally invasive surgery in the PhD Degree in Minimally Invasive surgery of the foot and ankle. She is Associate professor AMIFAS. Speaker lectures about Minimally Invasive foot surgery in Spain and Europe. Co-author in several chapters in Foot Surgery.

Borys Markewych, DPM


Dr. Markewych is currently Executive Director and was the president at AMIFAS (Academy of Minimally Invasive Foot & Ankle Surgery) in the past. He has dedicated his career in performing and teaching minimally invasive foot & ankle surgery over 30 years. He currently operates private practices as a President and Director of South Hill Foot & Ankle Center in Spokane, WA.

Mario Juanto, MD


Dr. Juanto is the current president of the MIS study group, GIAMIS (Grupo Iberoamericano de Cirugia MIS).  He is a dedicated orthopedic surgeon with 35 years of experience in the orthopedic surgery. He is proficient in treating neurological patients, musculoskeletal diseases and feet deformities conditions. He has been educating other colleagues in minimally invasive surgery of foot deformities.

Victor Horsley, DPM


Dr. Victor Horsley, DPM Past President of AMIFAS and currently chairs the upcoming cadaver lab in February. He graduated from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in 1982 and has been very active in MIS. Victor was appointed in 2017 as an MIS instructor and cadaver lab instructor at Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago. 

Dr. Horsley is fully retired from private practice where he was licensed in 5 states (Michigan, Illinois, Missouri, Wisconsin and Colorado) and currently resides in Nassau, Bahamas. He is still very active as a consultant for Foot and Ankle International on Deans Lane at Fort Charlotte. Their goal is to prevent diabetic amputations in the Caribbean.

Sheldon Nadal, DPM


Dr. Nadal first witnessed minimally invasive foot surgery when he visited Dr Abram Plon, one of the pioneers of MIS, In Philadelphia, more than 35 years ago. He has since performed 1000’s of MIS procedures in his Toronto, Canada office and has lectured on MIS at conferences in North America and Europe. He has contributed chapters on minimally invasive bunion surgery in three surgical textbooks and enjoys learning about MIS as much as he does teaching other surgeons. 

Orlando E. Núñez, MD DPM


Dr. Nunez is Associate Professor and Fellow of the Academy of Minimally Invasive Foot & Ankle Surgery and teaches at cadaver lab seminars. He co-authored chapters in different Orthopedic texts on minimally invasive surgical techniques the Foot and Ankle. He currently practices in Coeur d’Alene, ID. He also practices in Cartagena, Columbia.

J. Monroe Laborde, MD


Dr. Laborde practices Orthopaedic Surgery at Touro infirmary and is director of foot surgery at LSUHSC. Dr. Laborde is on the Board of the Academy of Minimally Invasive Foot & Ankle Surgery. He has had teaching appointments in the Departments of Orthopaedic Surgery and Biomedical Engineering at Tulane & Departments of Orthopaedic Surgery, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at LSUHSC.

He has over 50 publications on arthritis, spinal problems, biomechanics, chronic pain and foot problems, which have been cited by other authors over 250 times. Seven of his publications were the first publications about various aspects of treatment. He helped developed successful treatments for diabetic foot problems which could potentially prevent up to 1 million amputations a year worldwide.

Lawerence Kales, DPM


Dr LAwrence Kales is originally from Brooklyn New York. He attended SUNY Stony Brook and the Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine. He completed his residency in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery at Coney Island Hospital. He is proud to be performing MIFAS for almost 40 years in Hudson Florida and is a Fellow of the Academy of Ambulatory Foot Surgery. Dr Kales is Board Certified by the American Board of Ambulatory Foot Surgery (ABFAS), American Board of Medical Specialties in Podiatry both in Foot and Anke Surgery and Minimally Invasive Foot and Ankle Surgery, as well as the American Board of Lower Extremity Surgery. He is the proud father of 4 daughters who are successful practicing MD, JD, DMD, and Finance.

Timothy Shea, DPM


Dr. Timothy P. Shea is a board-certified podiatric foot and ankle specialist with a practice in Concord, California. He is currently the only podiatric surgeon certified in Minimal Invasive Foot Surgery by the American Board of Multiple Specialties in Podiatry in Northern California. His expertise and clinical interests include minimally invasive foot and ankle surgery, the development of the “California Treatment” program for foot and ankle injuries, and providing the latest non-surgical techniques and modalities for chronic foot and ankle pain.
He serves as Chief of Podiatric Surgery at John Muir Hospital in Concord, a clinical adjunct associate professor at California School of Podiatric Medicine of Samuel Merritt University, and serves as a medical examiner for the Board of Podiatric medicine of California.

Helene Nguyen, DPM


Dr. Helene Nguyen is the Founder and Owner of Feet ‘N Beyond of New Jersey. She grew up in Chicago and completed her podiatric medical studies and surgical trainings in NYC area.  She started her podiatric career as Wound Care Medical Director with Limb Salvage focused multidisciplinary team.  She currently practices in New Jersey.  She has adopted Minimally Invasive techniques through MIFAS Accelerator program.  In the last three years, she dedicated her time to structure her practice to total office-based MIS practice. 

Brant McCartan, DPM


Dr. Brant McCartan graduated from Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery in Miami Shores, FL. He is a current board member and fellow of the Academy of Minimally Invasive Foot & Ankle Surgery. There, he has lectured and instructed at their cadaver labs the past five years. He has been exclusively performing minimally invasive foot surgery since 2017 in Milwaukee, WI, and is the medical director of Northwest Surgery Center in Littleton, CO. When not fixing bunions and hammertoes, Brant enjoys coaching his sons baseball teams and traveling around the world with his wife and their six children.

The CME Dynamics is currently at the stage of pending approval by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education as a provider of continuing education in podiatric medicine. The CME Dynamics has approved this activity for a maximum of 12 continuing education contact hours.

CE Verification

Participants must sign in using the sign-in forms available during the breaks attesting to attendance per session. This must be completed and remitted during the break for each session for CECH certificates. Total number of CECH received is calculated using the sign-in process for each attendee.
